The Pressure Checklist

A Self-Assessment to Identify Where Pressure is Silently Impacting You

By KaVonte Carthron5 min read

How to Use This Checklist

Go through each section honestly. Don't answer how you think a strong leader should respond. Answer how you actually feel and behave. The value of this checklist lives in the accuracy of your self-assessment.

For each item, note whether it applies to you: Rarely, Sometimes, or Often.

Section 1: Decision-Making Under Pressure

I delay important decisions until I feel I have enough information

I second-guess decisions after I've already made them

I avoid making decisions when I'm uncertain about the outcome

I feel mentally exhausted after a series of major decisions

I rely heavily on others to validate my decisions before acting

I struggle to make quick calls when the stakes are high

Section 2: Communication & Leadership Presence

I avoid difficult conversations with team members or stakeholders

I hold back my opinions in senior leadership meetings

I feel less confident presenting to executives than to my team

I over-explain or over-justify my decisions to others

I have difficulty giving direct, constructive feedback

I feel my voice doesn't carry the weight it should in key meetings

Section 3: Mental Load & Focus

I frequently feel mentally overloaded with competing priorities

I have difficulty concentrating on one task without my mind drifting

I think about work problems during non-work hours regularly

I feel like I'm always reacting rather than leading strategically

I struggle to be mentally present in meetings I'm supposed to lead

I often feel like there's too much to think about at once

Section 4: Energy & Burnout Indicators

I regularly feel fatigued even after adequate sleep

I've lost enthusiasm for aspects of my work that previously excited me

I find myself going through the motions rather than being genuinely engaged

I feel irritable or short-tempered with my team or peers more than I'd like

I find it hard to switch off from work mode during personal time

I feel a growing sense of emotional depletion after major project sprints

Section 5: Confidence & Self-Trust

I sometimes wonder if I'm truly qualified to be in my current role

I feel like others around me are more confident or more capable

I prepare excessively for situations I know I can handle

I feel more like I'm surviving in my role than thriving

I have difficulty trusting my instincts when the pressure is highest

I feel reluctant to claim credit or ownership for wins I've led
